Interesting facts about Mount Snowdon, Wales

If you plan to visit Snowdon in Wales this summer, here is some interesting information about the mountain that you might like to know.

Snowdon, in Welsh, is Yr Wyddfa, which means tomb or monument. Legend has it that it is the tomb of Rhita Gawr, an ogre who would kill kings and make cloaks out of their beards. He supposedly met his end when King Arthur climbed to the top of Mount Snowdon and killed him.

No one knows who first conquered Snowdon, but ascents of the mountain became popular when Thomas Pennant published ‘Tours’ in 1781 and included his visit to the summit.

Snowdon, as indeed the surrounding area, has been mined since the Bronze Age, and evidence of copper mining can be seen all over the mountain, from old mine buildings, to old tramways. Care should be taken around these old buildings.

Facts and Figures of Snowdon

Snowdon stands 1,085 metres (3,560 feet) high. Each year 350,000 people reach the summit, some on foot and some by train. The summit has 200 inches(508 cm) of rain per year, and can reach temperatures of 30 centigrade in high summer, and plummet to - 20 centigrade in the winter. Add to this winds of up to 150 mph and the temperature can feel more like - 50. The summit buildings at the top can by covered by ice and snow between November and April.

Newport Beach Gondola Ride

Newport Beach Gondola Ride

Over 800 years old, the gondola is a regarded as a
symbol of romance. Although thinking of a gondola
may bring thoughts of Venice Italy, the gondola
ride found in Newport Beach can be just as romantic
when it comes to the symbol of romance.

Once you sit in the black yet sleek gondola, you’ll
be steered into the fairy-tale setting of the
hidden canals beyond Newport Beach. Most of the
time, the individual steering the gondola will
appear discreet yet mysterious, hearing nothing
and saying nothing.

With this sense, the boat will almost appear to
be moving by magic, gliding along with nothing to
disturb the soft music. Occasionally, you can
hear the splashing of a fish breaking the surface
of the water, which actually adds to the music and
the tempo of the gondola ride.

With the gondola floating so close to the surface
of the water, you’ll feel as if every sense you have
is being tapped. The warmth of the sun, the smell
of the water, and the lapping of the waves will set
your mind off like never before.

It’s no secret that finding a honeymoon location or

Europe By Train - Proposal Of A Route Through Germany, Austria And Denmark

As you probably already know, visiting Europe by train is one of my favorite proposals and I have planned lots of trips in this zone. Today’s itinerary is an alternative proposal that will cover the countries of Germany, Austria and Denmark. The whole route is done by train, as the crossing with ferry is done with the train inside! Of course, my recommendation is taking one of the multiple country passes that exist either for Europeans and people coming from abroad.

Frankfurt is, by far, the best destinations where you can fly to if you have the chance, because it is the European central for low cost flights and at same time the taxes can be pretty low. Also the rail connections are enormous there so even if you don’t plan to visit Germany it can save you some money to land there to start your European route.

Leaving Frankfurt and its skyscrapers behind, in this case you will face to the North of Germany, going through Koblenz and Köln, where a visit to the cathedral is a real must. Size really matters in some situations. After spending a night in Köln, you can follow your route taking another train to Bremen. There you can visit “The Schnoor”, take a walk at the city hall, the statue placed in Roland and the Buergerpark.

Galway: Ireland’s Best City

Galway is a city located in the province of Connacht in the Republic of Ireland. The city rests on the west coast of Ireland and it boasts a population of 65,832. The city dates back to a fort built in 1124 by the King of Connacht - around which a small settlement began to grow. The settlement started to thrive during the Middle Ages under the rule of fourteen merchant families known as the ‘Tribes of Galway’. At this time Galway established itself as an international trading post. Today, the city continues to boom and Galway contributes both commercially and culturally to the country.

Galway is one of the few cities in Ireland where the Irish language is commonly spoken – giving it the title ‘The Bilingual capital of Ireland’. The city places strong emphasis on the importance of Irish culture, traditions, music, song, dance and storytelling – this is mainly due to the city’s proximity to the Irish-speaking Gaeltacht area. As well as rich traditions and culture, Galway offers visitors a glimpse at some beautiful architecture. The city boasts an abundance of medieval buildings, not least St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church built in 1320, or Lynch’s Castle on Shop Street. For those interested in Renaissance architecture, the extravagantly named Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas, is well worth a visit.

Car Hire - A Guide to Driving in Austria

Austria is an outstanding country, with a wealth of natural and historical beauty on offer. With a car, you can explore its stunning landscape at leisure, without the constraints of timetables, spending as much or as little time in any spot.

Driving around the rugged mountain peaks, peaceful valleys, small towns and never-ending green forests is a truly unique experience. There are also a number of architectural hotspots throughout Austria, most notable of which can be found in Vienna, the countries capital.

Salzkammergut has been noted as a particularly beautiful area of the country, recommended for new-comers to explore. With its gorgeous lakes, mountainous peaks, small towns and villages, ice caves and salt mines it proves an exciting adventure.

Although the beauty of Austria can be enjoyed all year round, its best to avoid driving in the colder seasons, as snow often blocks some of the higher roads of the country. Driving laws throughout Austria are governed by EU rules and are obeyed and often strictly enforced.

The main dissimilarity to driving in the UK is of course that motorists in Austria drive on the right and overtake on the left. Headlights must also be used at all times and priority given to ascending vehicles.
