To help your business compete, here are a few tips to make your traveling expenses a little more palatable.

* Search for cheap airfares. Internet search engines provide a great resource for cheap fares. Be sure to get on these sites’ e-mail lists so you stay abreast of specials.

* Avoid alcohol. Drinking alcohol at meals can boost your bill. Stay away from adult beverages and you will be much happier when the check arrives.

* Stay in and watch a movie. By simply staying in your room at night and not going to bars or nightclubs, you can save yourself a lot of cash.

* Use free time for free attractions. Instead of heading to the golf course, go to a museum. Free attractions can be enlightening and easy on the wallet.

* Look for a deal on your rental car. You may want to join a discount program for car rental.

Car rental discount programs for business have traditionally only been offered to large businesses. But now, Thrifty’s SmartBiz program is breaking new ground as the first car rental discount program designed specifically for small businesses.

With a SmartBiz account, you’ll get low business rates with no minimum financial commitment. A free SmartBiz account also gets you unlimited miles, free additional drivers, free enrollment, no fees, no dues and no contracts. The account offers one free day of car rental after every 16 rental days with no blackout dates.

thanks for the tips, i had lots of experiences during my business trip in leutasch, too bad I’m a drinker, it raises my food bills.

Sounds like an awfully boring life doesn’t it? These things is exactly what you need when traveling, staying in a hotel room can’t be good for anyone.

Though these tips are the most pleasant for all, they are absolutely key in small business. Small business travel is not about seeing sights always, it’s about the business you are doing. When the business gets bigger you an travel to your heart’s content. Good tips in my opinion. And who says you can’ see the free things where you are? The best things in life are free, right?

Good tips. A bit boring, but totally understandable in light of the stressful financial times. If I was a small business owner I’d be doing that as well. My other tip would be to stay at a hotel with a continental breakfast, gorge, and hoard what you can for later munchies. If you can get a free breakfast, eat your plunder for lunch, and pay for dinner then you are only paying for one meal a day!

Great tips, these make a lot of sense. I think the other thing to mention is that tons of cities have a lot of free entertainment. Staying in to watch a movie and drinking aren’t the only two options. A city like London, for example, is considered one of the most expensive in the world but nearly all of the popular museums are free, as are many karaoke nights and quiz nights. It’s also a good idea to look for free entertainment in your city - both for something to do and to get a flavour of the place where you are doing business.

    Tip 6 *
Eat where the locals eat, often far better value and quality than where the tourists end up.

These are great tips; I noted all of them. About the “Stay in and watch a movie” and “Use free time for free attractions” tips, I’m always doing this when I travel.

Great tips. I can’t agree more with you that drinks raise bills. You can get the drinks much cheaper from a supermarket :)

Thanks for these advices. The one with the museum is the best. It is way better than to go on a golf course or something like that.
